Title of Position Financial Aid Specialist

Basic Responsibilities
    1. Review applicant’s aid eligibility and award funds they qualify for within the parameters of each funding source.
    2. Maintain a working knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional regulations in regard to financial aid.
    3. Contribute heavily to the processing of Return to Title IV Aid calculations for the university.
    4. Contribute to various review committees as assigned.
    5. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
  1. Review applicant’s aid eligibility and award funds they qualify for within the parameters of each funding source.
    1. Daily processing of financial aid funds.
    2. Review student aid packages to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
    3. Assist in the verification process as documents are received.
    4. Exercise professional judgment and properly respond to special circumstance and dependency override requests, as needed.
    5. Assist with special projects as assigned.
  2. Maintain a working knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional regulations in regard to financial aid.
    1. Become familiar with policies and resources available that guide the processing financial aid awards to ensure compliance.
    2. Contribute as needed to our internal processing and student system procedure manuals to ensure consistency in all processes.
    3. Attend training opportunities to stay current on financial aid regulatory changes and best practices.
    4. Engage in cross-training to be able to provide backup support as needed.
  3. Contribute heavily to the processing of Return to Title IV Aid (R2T4) calculations for the university.
    1. Learn the nuances associated with each federal fund that relate to eligibility.
    2. Evaluate withdrawal notifications to determine whether the student qualified to retain the financial aid paid to them during the semester.
    3. Perform the required federal R2T4 calculation.
    4. Ensure funds are returned or reprocessed appropriately in a timely fashion.
    5. Ensure all federal deadlines are met throughout the process.
  4. Contribute to various review committees as assigned.

Qualifications
  1. Professional
  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  2. Experience working with federal forms and an understanding of federal terminology, preferred
  3. Experience and competence with business computer tools like Microsoft Office Suite products
  4. Strong logical reasoning and basic math skills
  5. Experience in a higher education setting is preferred, but not required
  6. Experience with Ellucian-Banner is preferred, but not required
