Basic Responsibilities

A. Administer the University Access Programs

B. Supervise Trio program staff in Student Support Services, Talent Search and Upward Bound.

C. Ensure Compliance of Americans with Disabilities Act of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

D. Supervise the Office of International Students and Visiting Scholars staff.

E. Coordinate program development with staff and institution

Essential Duties

A. Administer UAP

    1. Administer the university access programs, including testing, Trio programs, ESL, tutoring, and/or other access programs as they are developed.
    2. Ensure that all objectives and activities are implemented by program staff
    3. Supervise staff and specific component activities in accordance with program objectives.
    4. Serve as an academic liaison within the institution (recruiting, admissions and student services, etc.)

B. Supervise Trio program staff in Student Support Services, Talent Search and Upward Bound.

    1. Coordinate Program development with staff and institution$1
    2. Direct Program focus and conduct Program evaluation
    3. Interview, select, supervise, and develop staff
    4. Act as liaison between UAP and other institutions and programs

C. Ensure Compliance of Americans with Disabilities Act of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

    1. Stay up to date with federal requirements. Collaborate with the university General Counsel.
    2. Ensure appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities are determined and implemented.
    3. Ensure due process for appeals.
    4. Resolve conflicts between students with disabilities and faculty.
    5. Develop and provide faculty training in collaboration with the Adams Center.

D. Supervise the Office of International Students and Visiting Scholars staff

    1. Be familiar with the regulations concerning international students and the mission of the office
    2. Serve as a designated school official (DSO) and an alternate responsible officer (ARO) 
    3. Facilitate program focus and development with staff and institution
    4. Conduct program evaluation
    5. Interview, select, supervise, and develop staff
Professional Development Requirements

A. Skills

1. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

2. Computer skills; preference for experience with PC network and software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs and Banner.

 

B. Training Modules Required

1. Training related to providing disability services to students.

2. All University trainings pertaining to payroll, accounts payable, technology and other departmental needs.

Qualifications A. Professional

1. Master’s degree required, Doctoral degree or equivalent preferred.

2. Preferred degree(s) in Social Work, Counseling and Guidance, Educational Administration, Sociology, Psychology Education, or related area

 

B. Personal

1.  3 years of relevant work experience (counseling, teaching, administration, etc.); at least a part of this experience should include working with disadvantaged persons in areas of employment or education.

2.  Experience in program management for higher education serving diverse student population preferred.

Physical Demands  

A.  High energy level, ability to maintain several activities at one time.

B.  Ability to manage stress and be an independent problem solver.

C. Ability to remain focused and in one place for long periods of time.
