||Abilene Christian University invites applications for a tenure track contract for the position of Technical Director and Designer to begin August 2020. ACU Theatre is a competitive audition-based program, boasting seven tracks in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance, Tech & Design, Theatre Education, Directing, Theatre Ministry. The department is deliberately capped at 65+ students to provide an intimate, hands on, mentored experience for our students. ACU produces 6-8 shows a season, produces a NYC Senior Showcase, participates in The Tepper Program in NYC operated under the umbrella of Syracuse University, LA Film Studies and produces a Shakespeare Festival every other year. The department regularly brings in guest artists in an effort to bring both coasts to Texas. We seek a highly motivated individual who is passionate about undergraduate education in a faith-based arena. We believe in preparing students to become successful artists of faith in a competitive market such as NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta or Dallas. Qualifications: MFA, MA, PhD or professional experience that is commiserate with a terminal degree in scenic, sound, lighting design or related field of study. Preferred qualifications include a record of successful artistic/professional achievements and prior experience in higher education. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing all aspects of technical operation of facilities, including maintenance issues that are relational to shop equipment and needs, coordinating contracts for scenic rentals and equipment, overseeing crew assignments, stage management training and mentoring, instructing or signing off on practicum assignments and class training, running load-ins and strikes, coordinating student designers, attending prospective interviews for potential tech/design students, overseeing lights, sound and prop needs. We seek a candidate that is excited about helping our tech program grow and will be available for recruitment opportunities as needed. Candidate should be able to lift 50 lbs. or more and climb ladders and stairs. Creative organization and positive out of the box collaborator is a plus. This candidate will be expected to teach technical building technique, design classes and other classes commiserate with skill alignment. Additional duties may include assisting with advanced student work, assessing students, holding office hours, and engaging in department, college, and university service. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing strong working relationships with colleagues and representing the theatre department on and off campus.
