Basic Responsibilities

A. Manage day-to-day budget

B. Assist the Dean and Associate Dean in coordinating Honors academic activities                      and curriculum

C. Manage Honors admissions for incoming and current ACU students

D. Program outcomes and assessment

E. Academic guidance and partnership with Honors academic Coordinator

F. Supervise Honors student workers

G. Coordinate with other departments on campus


Essential Duties

A. Manage day-to-day budget

1. Assist Dean and Associate Dean in setting budget for fiscal year 

2. Work in Banner Finance to track spending

3. Maintain spreadsheet with budget goals

4. Manage PCards and Expense Reports for Honors College staff and administration

5. Process payments to other departments, faculty, staff, and students as appropriate through various means (student travel/conference funds, ePAFs, Concur, Request for Payments, Journal Entries, Travel Advances, etc)


B. Assist the Dean and Associate Dean in coordinating academic activities and                               curriculum

1. Create proposed course listing for every semester, including innovations to

expand our offerings

2. Communicate with departments to request classes

3. Help select colloquia, notify professors of proposal acceptance, schedule all

class times/classrooms for each professor

4. Oversee input of courses, and maintain Banner restrictions, course names,

and attributes

5. Produce Course Guides and remind faculty of course requirements

6. Give support as needed to honors activities, recruiting activities, regional and

national conferences

7. Maintain an HC student, classroom, conference room, etc. calendar of academic dates, deadlines, and reservations


C. Manage Honors admissions for incoming and current ACU students

1. Meet/communicate prospective students about applying to the Honors College

2. Effectively communicate the academic requirements in Honors 

3. Partner with the Office of Admissions to achieve target Honors enrollment annually

4. Make admissions decisions in Slate for all incoming student applicants and send acceptance letters as needed

5. Evaluate current ACU student applications to Honors

6. Find opportunities to recruit high-achieving current ACU students not already participating in Honors


D. Program outcomes and assessment

1. Assist Dean and Associate Dean in creating and tracking outcomes

2. Update TaskStream annually

3. Maintain relevant records for SACS accreditation


E. Academic guidance and partnership with Honors academic Coordinator

1. Understand Honors requirements and communicate effectively with students as necessary

2. Help facilitate Honors projects and theses as needed

3. Coordinate with departments on students’ work

4. Assist Coordinator in tracking progress and maintaining records of Honors students

5. Award vouchers to professors who have supervised Honors work

6. Maintain a master record of all PD funds distributed and notify professors of balances


F. Supervise Honors student workers

1. Approve and oversee student worker schedules, time sheets, and daily activities

2. Make hiring, firing, and hourly wage change decisions with Dean and Associate Dean approval

3. Look for ways to develop student workers professionally

4. Guide student workers to assist with Honors events and activities in ways that benefit the College


G. Coordinate with other Honors staff and departments on campus

1. Help other staff as needed, particularly with Honors events

2. Inform other departments of Honors requirements

3. Learn what is going on in other departments that can benefit Honors


4. Look for possible conflicts that can be avoided through better communication

1. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred

2. Work or study experience in a university milieu

1. Must enjoy working with students who are aggressively bright, sometimes

unconventional, and with strong opinions

2. Must be able to organize information, records, and tasks, to track upcoming

needs and deadlines, and to keep others aware of deadlines

3. Must be able to communicate in a poised and literate manner with prospects

and their families, students, faculty, and staff

4. Must be flexible, finding more than one way to do a job; able to foresee

potential conflicts and able to resolve them.

Physical Demands

A. Sitting, standing, talking, and visual acuity such as fits office tasks – typing

documents, reading computer screens, filing, answering phone, etc.

B. Occasional light lifting (reams of paper, boxes of folders, etc.)
