Basic Responsibilities A. Manage hardware and software protection tools and resources
B. Investigate suspicious activity and identify appropriate responses C. Develop, recommend, and maintain security policies and procedures D. Promote information security awareness through training, communications, and reporting.
A. Manage hardware and software protection tools and resources
1. Manage and maintain campus perimeter firewalls 2. Manager and maintain campus Intrusion Detection and Prevention system 3. Manage and maintain campus vulnerability assessment systems 4. Manage and maintain campus security information and event management system 5. Research, recommend, and implement security solutions to safeguard ACU assets B. Investigate suspicious activity and identify appropriate responses 1. Maintain signatures or threat intelligence recommendations to identify suspicious activity

2. Manager monitoring and alerting procedures to ensure timely identification of
suspicious activity 3. Coordinate with administrators from other IT groups and appropriate campus personnel to determine appropriate response to suspicious activity 4. Manage, maintain, and execute an Incident Response Plan C. Develop, recommend, and maintain security policies and procedures 1. Periodically review university policies and procedures pertaining to information security 2. Develop and recommend changes or new policies and/or procedures to enhance the university’s security posture 3. Participate or coordinate periodic security audits, assessments, or reviews 4. Chair or facilitate the occasional Information Technology working group to address areas of concern identified in the periodic security audit, assessment, or review D. Promote information security awareness through training, communications, and reporting 1. Periodically present security topics and best practices to campus groups 2. Coordinate with the Helpdesk and Team55, providing appropriate security materials and observations that can be disseminated through various mediums (social, blogs, or print) 3. Manage security awareness campaigns and training resources 4. Produce regular reports and metrics related to security trends, events, and the university’s security posture 5. Conduct periodic hunt exercises with members of the university’s IT team
Professional Development Requirements A. Skills Required
1. Technical aptitude 2. Trouble-shooting ability 3. Communication/people skills B. Training Modules Required: 1. Information Security professional certification such as, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) 2. Attendance at security-related national conferences and training
Qualifications A. Professional
1. Bachelor's Degree in computer related field or equivalent in experience 2. 4-5 years’ experience system administration in a multi-user environment 3. 2-4 years’ experience with wide and local area network technologies 4. Experience with Center for Internet Security (CIS) Controls or National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) security standards, guidelines, and recommendations B. Personal 1. Ability to handle sensitive information in a discrete, responsible manner 2. Ability to communicate complex issues in common terms 3. High level of problem solving and technical troubleshooting 4. Ability to work in a team oriented environment
Physical Demands A. Ability to spend long periods of time doing tedious work
B. Ability to stand for extended periods of time C. Ability to work long hours at peak times
