Faculty Position Information

The Department of Communication and Sociology at Abilene Christian University, located in Abilene, Texas, invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in communication beginning August 2021. The position is composed of  an annual teaching load equivalent to four courses per long semester, developing and maintaining an active scholarly agenda, and engaging in service to the department, university, and profession. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to teach at every level, from the introductory undergraduate large lecture to advanced graduate seminars based on program needs and areas of specialization. Assigned courses may include Introduction to Communication Studies, Survey Research Methods, Public Speaking, Executive Coaching, Organizational Communication, Communication Internship, and other communication courses as determined by the Department Chair. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The Department of Communication and Sociology offers two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in communication and an interdisciplinary minor in leadership. We also host the ACU Speaking Center and a nationally recognized debate team. Faculty focus on integrating faith and learning in the classroom and engage in research with graduate and undergraduate students on a broad range of topics. Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in communication and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship. Minimum of two years teaching experience and a commitment to undergraduate research and student mentoring are required. The ability to direct an internship program and teach courses in emerging trends in the field is preferred.
