Faculty Position Information |
Abilene Christian University invites applications for the position of Director of Musical Theatre to begin August 2021. This position is for tenure track assistant/associate professor status. ACU Theatre is a competitive audition based program, boasting seven tracks in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance, Tech & Design, Theatre Education, Directing, and Theatre Ministry. The department is deliberately capped at 65 students to provide an intimate, hands on, mentored experience for our students. ACU produces 6-8 shows a season, produces a NYC Senior Showcase, participates in The Tepper Program in NYC operated under the auspices of Syracuse University, LA Film Studies and produces a Shakespeare Festival every other year. The department regularly brings in guest artists in an effort to bring both coasts to Texas. We seek a highly motivated individual who is passionate about undergraduate education in a faith based arena. We believe in preparing students to become successful artists of faith in a competitive market such as NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta or Dallas. The ideal candidate should confidently coach all musical theatre styles of singing from golden age to modern and pop/rock while inspiring a solid foundation of classical singing technique. Keyboarding skill sufficient to teach lessons without a full-time accompanist is preferred but not essential, advanced accompanist skills are desirable but not required.
Requirements: The candidate should be able to confidently music direct all musicals for each season.
Duties: Teach individual weekly private studio lessons, freshmen class voice, voice & diction, and other theatre related classes as needed.
Direct one or two productions a year, collaborate with other departments in artistic and academic projects, and perform other duties commensurate with education and experience. Additional duties may include assisting with advanced student work, assessing students, holding office hours, and engaging in department, college, and university service. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing strong working relationships with colleagues and representing the theatre department on and off campus.

Qualifications |
MFA, M. Music, MA, PhD or professional experience that is commiserate with a terminal degree in musical theatre or related field of study. Preferred qualifications include a record of successful artistic/professional achievements and prior experience in higher education.
