Basic Responsibilities
  1. Advance the NEXT Lab project toward the development of the Molten Salt Research Reactor (MSRR).

  2. Oversee a team of full-time staff engineers (5-10 individuals).

  3. Lead R&D projects with a team of students, staff, and faculty.

  4. Oversee the development of CAD models and drawings.

  5. Oversee the overall manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning of test systems.

  6. Perform system safety and risk analysis.

  7. Perform engineering simulations and design analysis with ANSYS or other analysis software.

  8. Collaborate in the identification and articulation of needed standards and work instructions to improve safety and quality.

  9. Review and approve procedure documents such as work instructions, operating procedures, maintenance, and repair manuals.

  10. Oversee implementation of standards and procedures.

  11. Lead design reviews.

  12. Complete annual performance evaluations for engineering staff.

  13. Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering staff.

  14. Maintain documentation (drawings, procedures, reports) per established guidelines.

  15. Show good verbal/written communication skills.

  16. Work with others in collaborative team settings.

  17. Other duties as assigned.

Professional Development Requirements      
  1. Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical.

  2. 5 years experience minimum (industry or university).

  3. Management experience preferred.

  4. Professional Engineering license preferred.

  5. Proficient with general computer skills, including Windows, e-mail, and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

  6. Comprehensive experience with CAD software, Autodesk Inventor preferred.

  7.  Experience with engineering data management software, Autodesk Vault preferred.

  8. Experience with ANSYS or other analysis software preferred.

Qualifications  
  1. Desire to work in a developing field of technology in a university environment.

  2. Ability to adapt to frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

  3. Requires minimum supervision and shows initiative to operate within design time and constraints.

  4. Shows initiative and responsible decision-making skills.

Physical Demands  
  1.  Work is performed in a laboratory environment; must have the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

  2. Ability to handle stress well (high volume and high speed demands)

  3. Travel is possible - locations will vary, and overnight travel may be necessary

This position requires access to nuclear technical information that is subject to export control restrictions administered by the Department of Energy under 10 CFR Part 810 (“Part 810”).  To work in this position you need to be authorized by the Department of Energy to access Part 810-controlled information.  Foreign nationals (as defined in 10 C.F.R. 810.3) who are citizens of countries that are not on the Department of Energy’s general authorization list will not be able to perform the work required of this position unless the Department of Energy issues an export control license to the university to permit that individual to have access to Part 810-controlled information.
