Faculty Position Information

I. Basic Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality instruction, direction and mentorship for assigned students.
    throughout all phases of the project process.
  • In Chair role, manage and supervise the team members and methodologists of
    assigned students.

II. Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide high quality instruction, direction and mentorship for assigned students throughout all phases of the project process.
    • Provide timely and supportive mentoring throughout the student’s process of developing, researching, writing, and revising the project.
    • Direct and instruct the student with the goal of producing high-quality research.
    • Participate in the Defense process of a student’s Prospectus. Offer timely and constructive feedback to facilitate revisions towards a successful project.

    • Comply with all pertinent policies and procedures outlined in Abilene Christian University’s Dissertation and DNP Project Handbook, Faculty Guidelines, and those specified by ACU’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies.
    • Attend/complete program and CGPS faculty trainings and provide credentialing/records updates as required.
    • Collaborate with student’s full committee.
    • In team member role, be willing to follow the lead of the project committee chair regarding interaction with the student.
  • In Chair role, manage and supervise the team members and methodologists of
    assigned students.
    • Facilitate the successful completion of all IRB protocols. Ensure that own IRB training is current and meets university and research requirements.
    • Guide the student through the development of the PICOT Question, the IRB Proposal, and the completed project manuscript.  Advise the student regarding necessary changes to the project problem and intervention.
    • Supervise the completion of data collection. Advise the student regarding necessary changes to the collection processes.
    • Communicate as needed with other team members, as well as any supporting roles, regarding project process, revisions, and procedures.
    • Provide feedback to the Associate Manager regarding any student and/or team member challenges, issues, or problems.
    • Make recommendations to students regarding the utilization of university resources, as needed.

    • Knowledge of CCNE accreditation standards and processes.

IV. Physical Demands:

  • Majority of work is performed in front of a computer and on the telephone; must
    have ability to use the computer and remain stationary for long periods of time.
  • Manage conversations in person, online and by telephone.
  • Work well under pressure and manage stress well.
  • Communicate clearly: speak, read, write, and hear clearly to perform essential functions.
Qualifications

Professional

  • Terminal degree in a health-related field, bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing
  • Current, unencumbered registered nurse and/or advanced practice nurse licensure
  • Experience in serving as a project chair or team member.
  • Evidence of quality scholarship completed in the last ten years [e.g. publications in peer reviewed journals, conference presentations, program evaluation reports, etc.].
  • Online instructional experience and working in a virtual team environment preferred.
  • Computer literate in software and internet-based applications.
  • Proficient in APA style (formatting, citation requirements, punctuation, etc.).

Personal

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to view and manage role and responsibilities in relation to larger mission, goals and perspective of the University.
  • Collaborative nature, with the ability to build consensus.
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and solves problems, asking for input and initiating solutions as appropriate and reasonable.
  • Capacity to quickly learn new software applications.
  • Willingness to receive additional training and/or faculty mentoring.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment when interacting with students,
    other faculty and staff.
