Basic Responsibilities

A. Direct the activities of the Office of Intercultural Engagement and Belonging.

B. Foster the academic, spiritual, and interpersonal development of students of color.

C. Collaborate with academic and other student, faculty, and staff support services to address multicultural needs at ACU.

Essential Duties

A. Direct the activities of the offices of Intercultural Engagement and Belonging.

1. Establish and implement short- and long-term area goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.

2. Design and utilize program evaluation methods to assess the outcome and effectiveness of programs and activities and effect change required for improvement.

3. Explore and implement institutional research and self-study relevant to multicultural competency and best practices.

4. Represent the university at professional meetings, on national committees and panels, and at community functions; coordinate resulting contacts and activities; assist with recruitment efforts for students of color where appropriate; and serve on university committees.

 

B. Foster the academic, spiritual, and interpersonal development of students of color.

1. Conduct assessments of the needs, satisfaction, and retention of students of color, develop and implement strategies to address concerns and assist in assuring the accountability of multicultural efforts.

2. Develop and implement programs and activities to encourage students of color to persist through graduation at ACU. Collaborate closely with the Office of Student Retention and Services.

3. Address the developmental needs of students of color through individual mentoring and appropriate referrals.

4. Serve as a resource to advisors and student executive officers of various student groups with a
specific cultural emphasis and assist in budget management and program development for such
groups.

 

C. Provide leadership in university strategic planning related to policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives that build community and foster multicultural awareness and development.

1. In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop and implement a guiding philosophy that shapes policy and process for student multicultural enrichment and other multicultural enrichment activities.

2. Plan, coordinate, implement, and assess campus-wide symposia, workshops, presentations, multicultural programming, etc., designed to enhance multicultural participation, intercultural understanding, and appreciation among all of the ACU community.

 

D. Work with academic and other student/faculty/staff support services to foster an environment that is inclusive and values the contributions of a diverse student body.

1. Collaborate with various departments and colleges to address issues related to admissions procedures, recruitment, retention, and financial support for students of color.

2. Collaborate with academic departments and programs to develop and strengthen academic and support services for students of color

Professional Development Requirements
  • Writing and editing skills sufficient to independently produce program proposals and evaluations, informational flyers, and educational materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to independently establish priorities, meet deadlines, and complete projects.
  • Basic management and supervisory skills, using sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Basic skills in PC or Apple computers, Microsoft Office applications, and use of email communication and internet research.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development activities, including classroom instruction.
Qualifications
  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. A master’s degree in student development or a closely related area from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with students of color, especially African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and/or Asian Americans, etc.
  • Experience in education, training, and/or program management, particularly developing, delivering, and evaluating training and other programs and incorporating diversity issues into content material.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, sufficient to train and make presentations to a variety of audiences, with the ability to appreciate and respond appropriately to diverse points of view. Must be comfortable with public speaking.
  • Willing to serve as a positive role model for all students, but particularly for students of color.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands

A. Must be able to maintain a positive professional demeanor at all times.

B. Must be able to work under stressful conditions, especially related to projects or other target dates.

C. Must be able to work at a fast pace, sometimes for long hours.
