Basic Responsibilities
  1. Provide systems administration services for server environments 

  2. Provide server-level support for critical computing systems and applications

  3. Perform second-tier support for systems and services, and perform occasional training.

  4. Participate in evaluating, planning, and deploying server technologies for ACU

Essential Duties  
  1. Provide systems administration services for server environments 

    1. Install and provision Operating Systems on physical and virtual servers.

    2. Maintain system configuration documentation. 

    3. Develop, deploy, and maintain process automation scripts and services.

    4. Gather client requirements to design, implement, and test server solutions.

    5. Monitor system health and optimization to prevent problems.


  1. Provide server-level support for critical computing systems and applications 

    1. Provide server and system support for Enterprise Applications.

    2. Provide server environments for application testing and development.

    3. Work with internal stakeholders and external service providers to gather system specifications to ensure appropriate resources are available for new systems.

    4. Monitor critical server services and logs to proactively identify performance issues and/or respond to service disruptions.


  1. Perform second-tier support for systems and services, and perform occasional training.

    1. Participate in the on-call rotation.

    2. Troubleshoot problems as reported.

    3. Train team members in the appropriate use of server management tools and utilities.


  1. Participate in evaluating, planning, and deploying server technologies for ACU

    1. Identify and recommend cost-effective technology solutions that directly support the ACU strategic roadmap.

    2. Develop strategies and standards to maintain server functionality and stability.

    3. Test and evaluate new technologies related to servers and services.

    4. Develop and implement detailed project plans.

Professional Development Requirements  Skills  
  1. Strong oral and written communication skills.

  2. Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

  3. Knowledge of client and server operating systems like Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

  4. Familiarity with web and application server setup and administration

  5. Ability to analyze and resolve difficult technology problems.

  6. Ability to extract and utilize complex information from technical documentation.

  7. Ability to learn and keep current with information technology and its application to Higher Education.  This includes participating in conferences and training classes on Higher Education application software or computing systems.

Training Modules

  1. Operating systems management 

  2. VMware Server Virtualization management

  3. Storage Area Network (SAN) management

Qualifications  Professional

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

  2. Experience in server setup, configuration, and administration. 

  3. Proficient with scripting and process automation

  4. Experience with virtualization technologies, Storage Area Networks, and backup/restore solutions.

  5. Familiarity with hybrid/cloud environments.

  6. Familiarity with applying security best practices and performing regular patch management

  3. Works well independently and in teams, including leadership roles

  4. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Physical Demands
  1. Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time.

  2. Must be able to work extended hours as the need arises. This includes on-call rotation and performing software maintenance and updates outside of working hours.

  3. Must be able to carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds.

This position requires working on-site at the ACU Abilene campus.
