Job Qualifications IT Technology Support is looking for someone with strong technical expertise in diagnosing and repairing desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices. They should have hands-on experience with hardware components, excellent problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of ESD precautions. Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical issues clearly are essential. Certifications like CompTIA A+ are a plus, along with a customer-focused mindset and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Position Description/ Job Duties Computer hardware repair involves diagnosing, troubleshooting, and fixing physical components of computers and related devices. Key activities include:

Diagnosing Issues – Identifying hardware problems using testing tools, visual inspection, and user reports (e.g., no power, overheating, strange noises).

Replacing or Repairing Components – Repairing or swapping out faulty parts such as hard drives, motherboards, RAM, power supplies, CPUs, cooling fans, and graphics cards.

Cleaning and Maintenance – Removing dust, cleaning internal components, and ensuring proper airflow to prevent overheating and extend hardware life.

Upgrading Hardware – Installing new components to improve system performance, such as adding memory, replacing a hard drive with an SSD, or upgrading the GPU.

Reassembling and Testing – After repairs, reassembling the computer and running diagnostic tests to ensure the system is functioning properly.

Data Handling – Safely handling data during repairs, backing up files if necessary, and ensuring storage devices are working correctly.

Installing Drivers and Firmware – Ensuring all repaired or replaced components are recognized by the system and running with the correct software support.

Customer Communication – Explaining issues and solutions in understandable terms, providing estimates, and offering maintenance advice.

Teamwork – Assisting other Technology Support activities as needed.
Preferred Availability Hours for this position may be filled Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. As a student position, this position assumes the need for flexibility around class schedules. A final schedule can be set with the Associate Director of Technology Support.
