Basic Responsibilities

These are the major functions of the job:

  • Works as directed by the Grounds Manager for the Landscape & Grounds Department.
  • Maintain the turfgrass, landscape and hardscape for all off-campus rental properties to level defined in expectation matrix.
  • Assist other trades and grounds personnel in the spirit of teamwork.
  • Continue to train and develop to the highest levels and degrees.
  • Supervision of temporary and student workers.
Essential Duties

Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function.

Works as directed by the Grounds Manager for the Landscape & Grounds Department.

  • Follow established rules and guidelines established by the Landscape & Grounds Department and ACU.
  • Fill out work orders and written documentation.
  • Be on call 24 hours a day during inclement weather.

Maintain the turfgrass, landscape and hardscape in the zones to a professional level.

  • Mow, edge, weed-eat to maintain turf and adjacent areas.
  • Trim trees and landscape for neat and well-maintained appearance.
  • Keep all hardscape areas clean and free of debris
  • Empty trash around properties and alleys.
  • Display initiative to work alone or in-groups.

Assist other trades and grounds personnel in the spirit of teamwork. 

  • Assist in the recycling of trees and plants into mulch for flowerbeds and turf areas.
  • Install and repair sprinkler systems
  • Help maintain a fertilizer and weed-killing program.
  • Must assist in spreading of ice melt on campus during icy days.
  • Repair and maintain equipment to maintain the resources of the University.

Continue to train and develop to the highest levels and degrees.

  • Attend approved landscape/grounds related seminars.
  • Work towards industry certifications

Supervision of temporary and student workers.

  • Supervise temporary and student workers that are assigned to you
Professional Development Requirements

These are the minimal skills needed to succeed at this job.

Skills Required

  • Knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Skilled in all areas of irrigation, weed control, fertilization.
  • Operate large equipment such as mowers, backhoe, tractor, and bobcat.

Training Modules Required:

  • Computer training.
  • Turf and landscape management
  • Chemical training
Qualifications

Professional

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years in green industry

Personal

  • Honest and responsible
  • Good moral character
  • Neat and clean
Physical Demands

These are physical demands that are regularly required to perform this job.

  • Good health able to work in extreme heat and cold.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to lift and carry minimum of fifty pounds.
