Basic Responsibilities |
- Work as directed by the immediate supervisor and/or director of Operations MEP
- Maintenance & repairs to the heating & air conditioning systems
- Perform tasks assigned as part of remodeling & construction projects
- Assist other trades and grounds personnel as needed in the spirit of cooperation & teamwork
- Continue to develop and cross-train in a manner that will keep personnel up to date & safe
- Continually seek ways to improve system efficiencies and indoor air quality as well as ways of increasing energy conversation

Essential Duties |
- Work as directed by the director of Operations MEP
- Follow the established rules, policies & procedures of ACU Operations and Abilene Christian University
- Takes on responsibilities of the director when not available (leave, training)
- Broad knowledge of all campus buildings and how each one operates
- Commitment to after hour calls; high level of commitment to university
- Willing to communicate with building owners about problems & solutions
- Maintains repairs and replaces air conditioning equipment of the reciprocating and centrifugal types, including related electrical motors, and their respective controls, including calibration of equipment, gauges, and controls handling of refrigerant, and refrigerant charging of systems
- Maintains, repairs, and replaces hot water, condenser, and chilled water systems, including pumps, control valves, and cooling towers, and related controls.
- Maintains, repairs, and replaces air-moving, heating, cooling, humidification, and filtering equipment and systems such as fans, heat pumps, fan coil units, rooftop package air conditioning units, computer room cooling units, solar panels, electronics and pneumatic modulating thermostats, humidistats, duct stats, and pressure and volume controls
- Maintains, repairs, and replaces fume hood components
- Maintains, repairs, and replaces low pressure boilers used for heating of air and their combustion and control systems
- Maintains, repairs, and replaces equipment related to heating and cooling, such as air compressors, air dryers, and associated controls
- Fabricates tubing or piping for pneumatic control systems which may involve soldering, brazing, welding, etc.
- Operates energy management or building automation systems that control heating and cooling systems
- Reads and records gauge readings on various types of equipment
- Performs minor installation of modification work on heating and cooling systems and controls, including planning the work; estimating and arranging the materials, supplies and equipment required; and coordinating with other trades
- Inspects work site for planned works impact on associated trades and professionals and consults with others to ensure safety and to prevent equipment outages
- Performs related duties as assigned

- Skills
- Ability to use hand tools and testing & measuring devices such as wet-dry bulb thermometers, anemometers, velometers, draft gauges, soldering irons, hand torches, leak detectors, multi-meters, etc.
- Ability to read & interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, charts, and technical instructions
- Ability to accurately maintain equipment inventory & history records
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and to present facts clearly, both orally and in writing
- Ability to properly use hand tools and power equipment used in the trade

Qualifications |
- Professional
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of five (5) years experience within the HVAC trade preferred
- Knowledge of refrigeration theory and computation of heating & cooling loads with capacities
- Possession of U.S. Environmental Protection Administration “Universal” certification for handling and disposal of refrigerant

Physical Demands |
- Good health and stamina; able to lift, carry, and pull loads in excess of fifty (50) pounds
