Basic Responsibilties

Basic Responsibilities for simulation lab
A. If BSN: Following a pre-set lab procedure, coaching students, and checking off student practice in the lab.
B. If MSN: In addition to the above activities may direct and/or teach lab procedures and evaluate student performance.
C. Carrying out other duties as assigned.

Basic Responsibilities for clinical
A. If BSN: assist clinical faculty with oversight of students in the clinical areas
B. If MSN: responsible for student clinical experiences in external clinical facility
C. Carrying out other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

Basic Responsibilities for simulation lab

A. If BSN: Following a pre-set lab procedure, coaching students, and checking off student practice in the lab.


1. Working with MSN to carry out planned activities in the lab
2. Assist MSN in setting up simulation environment for scenario implementation and clean up afterwards
3. Assisting in the maintenance of equipment and care of the labs.
4. Serving as a resource for students during open lab time
5. Assisting MSN in facilitating simulation scenario which includes debriefing

B. If MSN: In addition to the above activities may direct and/or teach lab procedures and evaluate student performance.


1. Communicate with course instructor regarding curriculum plan, goals and strategy for lab activities.
2. Ensuring that all activities in the lab are planned and implemented with the overall curriculum plan, goals and strategy.
3. Assist course instructor in setting up simulation environment for scenario implementation and clean up afterwards
4. Assisting in the maintenance of equipment and care of the labs.
5. Serving as a resource for students during open lab time
6. Facilitating simulation scenario which includes debriefing

Basic Responsibilities for clinical

A. If BSN: assist clinical faculty with oversight of students in the clinical areas


1. Assist MSN to ensure that all activities in clinical are planned and implemented with the overall curriculum plan, goals and strategy.
2. Assist MSN to communicate objectives with charge nurse and primary nurse at the beginning of each clinical day
3. Assist MSN with Pre and Post conference
4. Confirm that the student is prepared for the clinical experience each day to ensure patient safety.

B. If MSN: responsible for student clinical experiences in external clinical facility

1. Ensuring that all activities in clinical are planned and implemented with the overall curriculum plan, goals and strategy.
2. Communicate objectives with charge nurse and primary nurse at the beginning of each clinical day
3. Pre and Post conference
4. Confirm that the student is prepared for the clinical experience each day to ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

A. Professional

  1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing as a minimal requirement

  2. MSN Degree preferred.

  3. Current unencumbered RN License in the State of Texas or eligible for licensure in Texas.

  4. At least 3 years of clinical experience in the area of teaching

  1. Willingness to work with the Christian mission of the School of Nursing and university

  3. Willingness to keep currency in the nursing profession and technological advances.

C. Skills

a. Proficient with computer equipment and software
b. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and general public.
c. Ability to make judgments in demanding situations.
d. Display professionalism for the college in all communication and interaction.
e. Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.
f. Willingness to take initiative.
g. Teamwork skills

D. Training Required

  1. Clinical facility orientations

  2. Faculty/staff orientation sessions

  3. Simulation trainings: Laerdal, Gaumard

Physical Demands A. Must be able to physically meet the demands of the job
