Basic Responsibilities

The mission of Residence Life is to support ACU’s mission by offering intentional, Christ-centered living and learning communities that provide opportunities for student learning, student success, and authentic relationships in excellent residential facilities.

A. Lead the residence life professional staff (Resident Directors, Assistant Directors, Senior Resident Directors, and the Housing Coordinator).
B. Facilitate and manage campus partnerships (Facilities, Student Engagement, Dean of Students, Faculty in Residence, Admissions, Athletics, University Access Programs, SOAR)
C. Engage with parents and students related to housing concerns or needs
D. Develop and co-manage departmental projects alongside the Residence Life leadership team
E. Build and maintain housing software competency and contribute to the housing operations responsibilities
F. Other Duties

Essential Duties

1. Supervise Residence Life professional staff
- Facilitate weekly staff meetings
- Meet one-on-one with staff providing supervision, care, and staff development
- On-call rotation as a Senior on-call, available to RD on-call for 6-8 weeks each semester and 5-6 weeks during the Summer.
- Departmental committee formation through leading or peripheral involvement in committees.
- Manage professional staff hiring processes through recruiting, job posting, interviewing, and onboarding
- Assist in new RD orientation in collaboration with ResLife Leadership team
- Implement regular staff development on topics of DEI, leadership, mental health, and other topics of importance
- Budget management

2. Engage prospective and current parents and students
- Assist in NSO (New Student Orientation)
- Respond to emails and phone calls related to housing concerns
- Present at Prospective Visit Days and help facilitate Open Houses
- Parent and student meetings
- Participate in student crisis response

3. Build and maintain housing software competency
- Develop competency and skills with StarRez housing software
- Assist in building the housing applications needed each year
- Participate in software training and troubleshooting
- Provide customer service support by responding to emails, developing department-wide communication, and helping manage the department’s website.
- Process creation and optimization through evaluating and developing policies, procedures, data collection, and reporting.

4. Develop and co-manage departmental projects including but not limited to:
- Student staff hiring
- PSYC 211 (student staff training academic course)
- Summer housing operations, housing application development
- Faculty in residence program
- Chaplain program
- Move-in/Move-out
- Hall pantries
- Bi-annual student surveys
- Living-learning communities

5. Facilitate partnerships with departments across campus, including but not limited to:
- Facilities Management
- SOAR (Student Opportunities, Advocacy, and Resources)
- Student Engagement
- Dean of Students
- Honors College
- Admissions
- University Access Programs
- Spiritual Life
- Study Abroad
- HES (Custodial Services)
- Risk Management.

Qualifications

ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

A. Professional
1. Master’s degree required in applicable fields of study (Higher Education, Leadership, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, etc.).
2. Preference given to applicants with Residence Life/Housing experience, Student Affairs experience, or other relevant experience in a residential college or university setting.
3. An understanding of critical issues facing late adolescents.
4. Exceptional written communication skills
5. Counseling skills/listening skills.
6. Public speaking and extemporaneous speaking abilities.
7. Leadership experience.
8. Conflict management experience.
9. Management and administrative coordination/organizational abilities.

B. Personal
1. Presents self in a professional manner (i.e., dress, verbal and written communication, including email communication).
