Essential Duties

1. Care for Students

i. Monitoring and Mentoring at-risk Students: Engaging in awareness
around our at risk population and implementing proactive approaches
to student success
ii. Assisting with residents recommended to SOAR when needed:
Staying informed around SOAR cases for residential students and
aiding in accessing students.
iii. On Call: Crisis/after hours response within residence halls and
residential students.
iv. Programming and community development: Implementation of
regular programming inside our halls and across our campus that
builds interpersonal relationships and belonging within our individual
hall communities.
2. Care for Student Staff
i. Training: Contribute to the development and implementation of a week
long training in August for RAs and SRAs as well as additional
trainings as needed.
ii. Mentoring: Meet regularly one-on-one with your RAs and SRAs to
build an interpersonal relationship and ease their access to support.
iii. Programming/Team Development: Meet regularly with staff to
build strong team dynamic and community that contributes to their
effectiveness in RA/SRA role.
3. Care for Facilities and Building
i. Furniture: Assist in the care of furniture in your building and assess
the need for furniture replacement on an annual basis.
ii. Common spaces: Strategically use your building’s common spaces
in a way that promotes community and meets the needs of your
residents.
iii. Laundry room management: Aid in the effort for organization and
cleanliness in Laundry rooms. Submit and follow up on work order for
machine malfunctions.
iv. Partnership with Facilities: Submit work orders around
building/room needs and advocate for your building around necessary
changes for the safety and benefit of the residence. Seek healthy and
positive relationship with ACU facilities.
v. Working knowledge of THD: Maintain skills to use THD for
Move-in/Move-out as well as changes happening within your hall
throughout the academic year.

Professional Development Requirements
  1. Within this role and job description, a dedication to care for self is of high importance as we maintain the care of residents, student staff, and the buildings. Additionally, each Resident Director will bring a different set of strengths to the department and the job is intended to have space for those strengths to be known and utilized. The Resident Director role will have space created for team development through weekly staff meetings and interpersonal relationships through the department. The role will also give attention to professional development and training, special projects, and self care.
Qualifications
  1. Professional

  1. Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree required.
  2. Preference given to applicants with Residence Life/Housing experience, Student Affairs experience, or other relevant experience in a residential college or university setting.
  3. An understanding of critical issues facing late adolescents.
  4. Counseling skills/listening skills.
  5. Public speaking and extemporaneous speaking abilities.
  6. Leadership experience.
  7. Conflict management experience.
  8. Management and administrative coordination/organizational abilities.
  1. Personal

  1. Presents self in professional manner (i.e., dress, verbal and written communication, including email communication).
  2. A high level of interpersonal and social skills.
  3. Must be able to relate to all age groups) as well as individuals from a different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
  4. Ability to keep calm and cool in heated situations.
  5. Flexibility and ability to handle frequent interruptions and handle various tasks at once.
  6. Ability to readily recall names and faces.
  7. Maintain high levels of confidentiality.
  8. Sense of confidence in self and purpose – ability to take both insults and encouragement in stride.
  9. Ability to be collegial – working well with others. Able to handle criticism, to be flexible in a fast-paced work environment, and able to be empathetic.
