Faculty Position Information

The Department of Communication and Sociology at Abilene Christian University, located in Abilene, Texas, is accepting applications for a college faculty position in Sociology at the rank of college faculty to begin in August 2025. 

Responsibilities:

Candidates will be required to teach 4 undergraduate courses per semester, direct the sociology minor, and assess sociology courses for general education. They will teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in sociology, from introductory to upper-level courses. The ideal candidate is a teacher dedicated to mentoring undergraduate students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds. All applicants should demonstrate a record of excellent classroom teaching. Applicants must have strong communication skills and an interest in the development of students.

The Department/Program:

The Department of Communication and Sociology at Abilene Christian University provides undergraduate majors in Communication and Sociology with minors in Communication, Sociology, Leadership Studies, and Aging Studies. Additionally, the department offers an MA in Communication. Departmental faculty contribute regularly to interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies, Gender and Multicultural Studies, the Pre-Law Program, and the Honors Program.

Qualifications A Ph.D. in Sociology is preferred, but ABD applicants with expected degree conferral in August 2025 or applicants with a M.A. in Sociology will be considered. The area of specialization is open. This position requires demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates at both the introductory and upper levels in Sociology.
