Faculty Position Information

I. Major Responsibilities: 

  1. Develop and articulate a vision for the Sports Leadership program, working in collaboration with stakeholders such as the VP of SL&L, visiting committees, and/or other external professional sports industry organizations/partners, and report on the program’s performance and alignment as necessary.

  2. Supervise and evaluate the performance of faculty and adjuncts of the Sports Leadership program.

  3. Teach in the Sports Leadership program.

  4. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the program (Annual Outcome Assessment Reports, Enhanced Program Reviews, etc.)

  5. Administer the academic, personnel, recruitment, and administrative life of the program.

  6. Advise students toward the completion of their program.

  7. Oversee and lead the administrative functions of the program. 

  8. Other duties and tasks.

  9. Develop and maintain working relationships with university administrators, faculty and staff.

  10. Ability to work with multiple organizations who are utilizing the program.

  11. Consistent focus on the global sports industry, dynamics, and trends in practice.

 

III. Physical Demands:

  1. The majority of work is performed in front of a computer and on the telephone; must have the ability to use the computer and remain stationary for long periods of time.

  2. Manage conversations in person, online, and by telephone.

  3. Limited travel – locations vary, and some overnight travel may be necessary.

  4. Work well under pressure and manage stress well.

  5. Communicate clearly: speak, read, write, and hear clearly to perform essential functions.

  6. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Qualifications

Professional

  1. An earned Ph.D. or an Ed.D. or other terminal degree in a field related to Sports Leadership.

  2. Experience working inside the global sports industry, or in related positions.

  3. Five years teaching or administrative experience in higher education or equivalent industry experience.

  4. Relevant evidence of active scholarship [within Boyer’s (1996) model of scholarship], completed in the last ten years, preferred.

  5. Experience teaching, designing, and developing online degree programs or coursework is preferred.

  6. Expertise in developing and implementing innovative interventions for improved college access for post-traditional students and/or diverse populations.

  7. Computer proficiencies in standard software and internet-based applications.

  1. Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

  2. Ability to view and manage roles and responsibilities in relation to the larger mission, goals, and perspective of the University.

  3. Collaborative nature and excellent interpersonal abilities, with the ability to build consensus within cross-functional and multi-purposed teams, as well as diverse groups of people.

  4. Outstanding organizational and project management skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines.

  5. Highly self-motivated and problem-solver, asking for input and initiating solutions as appropriate and reasonable.

  6. Ability to consistently make sound decisions and exercise good judgment in a variety of circumstances.

  7. Capacity to quickly learn new software applications.

  8. Willingness to receive additional training and/or faculty mentoring.
