Basic Responsibilities

A. Academic advising and overall guidance and development of Honors students B. Help facilitate Honors projects, contracts, and theses 

C. Track progress on requirements of Honors students (primarily through Suitable) D. Coordination with Honors Student Council and other staff as needed and assist with the overall functioning of the Honors College. 

Essential Duties  

A. Academic advising and overall guidance and development of Honors students

1. Meet with students individually before registration and by email if necessary

2. Meet with prospective students about the academic requirements in Honors as needed.

3. Talk to Honors classes and other groups about Honors requirements as needed

4. Help students find ways to fit Honors work into their schedules 

5. Coordinate with departments and Academic Advisors on students’ work 

B. Help facilitate Honors projects, contracts, and theses. 

1. Process contract paperwork and seek out approvals for students 

2. Keep lists of students doing Honors work each semester 

3. Verify completion of students’ work with supervising professor

C. Track progress on requirements for Honors students 

1. Keep updated files on each student tracking their progress through Honors and dispose of properly according to records management policy (primarily through Suitable)

2. Communicate with students regarding Honors status 

3. Oversee and maintain Suitable software to accommodate any changes in Honors programming 

D. Coordination with other staff as needed 

1. Oversee Honors Student Council. 

2. Help other staff as needed, particularly with Honors events 

3. Inform other departments of Honors requirements 

4. Learn what is going on in other departments that can benefit Honors students. 5. Look for possible conflicts that can be avoided through better communication.

2. General competence in (or willingness to learn) spreadsheets, database, e-mail, voicemail, scheduling software, Banner software, internet.

Qualifications  

A. Professional 

1. Bachelor’s degree 

2. Work or study experience in a university milieu

B. Personal 

1. Must enjoy working with students who are aggressively bright, sometimes unconventional, and with strong opinions 

2. Must be able to organize information, records, and tasks, to track upcoming needs and deadlines, and to keep others aware of deadlines 

3. Must be able to communicate in a poised and literate manner with prospects and their families, students, faculty, and staff 

4. Must be flexible, finding more than one way to do a job; able to foresee 5. potential conflicts and able to resolve them. 

6. Must act professionally at all times and represent the Honors College and ACU well.

Physical Demands  

 These are physical demands regularly required to perform this job.

1. Sitting, standing, talking, and visual acuity such as fits office tasks – typing documents, reading computer screens, filing, answering the phone, etc. 

2. Occasional light lifting (reams of paper, boxes of folders, etc.)
