Basic Responsibilities
  1. Works as directed by the immediate supervisor and/or the Director of Landscape & Grounds.

  2. Lead your team in maintaining the landscape & grounds in your zone in an effort to enhance the beauty of ACU.

  3. Assist other trades and grounds personnel as needed in spirit of cooperation and team work.

  4. Continue to develop and cross-train in a manner that will keep personnel up to-date and safe.

Essential Duties

A. Works as directed by the immediate supervisor and/or the Director of Landscape & Grounds.

  1. Follow established, policies, and procedures of the Landscape & Grounds Department and ACU.
  2. Order materials and supplies as needed for the completion of work orders.

  3. Fill out work orders and written reports daily.

  4. Display necessary work initiative to work alone or in groups.

  5. Supervise employees & student workers that are assigned to your area.

B. Maintain flower beds, ground cover, interior plants, grass, hardscapes, and other areas associated with ACU landscape to the Universities standard.

  1. Assist Landscape & Grounds Manager with installation of new landscapes & seasonal color as needed.

  2. Mow, weed eat, and edge grass areas.

  3. Maintain beds and flowering landscape area to enhance the beauty of the campus.

  4. Empty trash in your area daily or as needed.

  5. Keep hardscapes clean and free of debris.

  6. Display initiative to work by oneself or in groups.

C. Assist other trades and grounds personnel as needed in spirit of cooperation and teamwork.

  1. Be on call 24 hours for inclement weather events and be able to come in early to spread ice melt.

  2. Help maintain an aggressive fertilizer program that will enhance the beauty of the campus.

  3. Clean up and remove trash on campus.

  4. Understanding of basic irrigation operations.

D. Continue to develop and cross-train in a manner that will keep personnel up to-date and safe.

  1. Attend ACU approved, work related training sessions.

  2. Clean and maintain equipment to extend the life of the equipment, and maintain resources of the University.

  3. Perform work in a safe manner.

Professional Development Requirements
  1. Skill Required

    1. Knowledge of hand and power tools

    2. Skilled in all areas of landscaping, turf maintenance, interior plants, weed control, and fertilization

    3. Operate small equipment such as mower, weed-eater, blower, edger, trimmer and rotary tiller.

  2. Training Module

    1. Written and verbal communication skill

    2. Must have basic safety training

    3. Emphasize excellent customer relations and service

Qualifications
  1. Professional

    1. High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of hands on experience with landscape, grass & interior plant materials

    2. Or associate degree in horticulture

  2. Personal

    1. Successful candidate must be honest, trustworthy, dependable, responsible, punctual and have a good moral character and work ethic.

    2. Must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.

    3. Possession of a valid Texas driver's license is a requirement for this job.

    4. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

    5. Must be neat & clean in appearance at all times.

Physical Demands
  1. Good health and stamina to lift; carry and pull loads in excess of fifty (50) pounds.

  2. Must be able to climb a ladder.

  3. Must be able to work in extreme heat/cold weather conditions.
