Basic Responsibilities
  1. Works as directed by the Director of Landscape & Grounds
  2. Supervision of students
  3. Chemically treat all weeds, and fertilizes all areas of campus.
  4. Chemically treat buildings for insects.
  5. Continue to train & develop to the highest levels and degrees
Essential Duties
  1. Works as directed by the Director of Landscape & Grounds
    1. Follow established rules & guidelines established by Landscape & Grounds.
    2. Order materials & supplies for the completion of daily tasks.
    3. Fill out work orders & written documentation.
  2. Supervision of students
    1. Supervise student workers that are assigned to you.
    2. Be on call 24 hours a day.
    3. Chemically treat all weeds in turf areas, bed areas, & around trees.
    4. Chemically treat for insects in buildings on campus.


  1. Chemically treat all weeds, and fertilizes all areas of campus.
    1. Help establish a chemical program.
    2. Maintain a fertilizer program.
    3. Display initiative to work by one’s self or in groups.
  2.  Chemically treat buildings for insects.

      1.  Empty trash around your area.

      2.  Maintain an aggressive weed-killing program.

      3.  Must come in early & assist in spreading of ice melt.


E. Continue to train & develop to the highest levels and degrees

     1.  Repair & maintain equipment to maintain the resources of the University.

     2.  Assist in the recycling of trees & plants into mulch for flower beds and turf areas

     3.  Build relationships with other landscape & grounds personnel and be willing to assist in other tasks in the sense of teamwork.

Professional Development Requirements
  1. Skills 
  1. Knowledge of hand and power tools.
  2. Skilled in all areas of irrigation, weed control and fertilization.
  3. Operate large equipment such as mowers, backhoe, ditch witch, and bobcat.
  1. Training Modules Required

  1. Computer training
  2. Turf training
  3. Chemical training
  1. Professional

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Minimum of five years in Turf Management
  3. Licensed chemical applicator or working toward one within 18 months.
  4. Valid U.S. driver’s license

  2. Good moral character
Neat and clean
Physical Demands
  1. Good health; able to work in extreme heat and cold.
  2. Must be able to climb a ladder
  3. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of fifty pounds.
