Title of Position Plumber II
Posting Location Abilene, Texas 
Department Facilities and Campus Management - Plumbing
Employee Class Nonexempt Full-time
Basic Responsibilities

A. Work as directed by immediate supervisor or Director of MEP. 

B. Work on all facility plumbing systems; not limited to water systems, sewage systems, gas systems and irrigation systems. 

C. Perform tasks assigned as part of remodeling and construction work. 

D. Plan, coordinate, develop preventative maintenance programs, and supervise other plumbing employees. 

E. Assist other trades as needed in the spirit of teamwork and cooperation. Cross train to enhance skills.

Essential Duties  

A.

1. Follow established rules, policies and procedures of Facilities Management and the University. 

2. Order materials and supplies as needed for completion of work assigned.

3. Maintain plumbing budget within approved limits. 

4. Fill out work orders and written reports daily. 

 

B.

1. Display initiative to work alone or in groups. Work with and supervise other plumbing and student employees. 

2. Be on call 24 hours a day. 

3. Coordination of special projects with outside plumbing contractors. 

4. Respond quickly to emergencies. 

 

C.

1. Install sewer, gas, water and other systems according to National, State, and Local plumbing codes. 

2. Perform preventative maintenance on hot water heater (not classified as boilers; and other critical plumbing systems.

3. Inspect fire sprinkler systems as required by law and assure operation. 

 

D.

1. Repair faucets, showerheads, drains, pipes, and valves. 

2. Repair/replace parts as needed in drain fixture units, kitchen equipment, circulating pumps and mechanical systems. 

3. Maintain adequate parts inventory and evaluate available plumbing products and hardware standardize where applicable to achieve economy. 

 

E.

1. Develop estimate of costs for plumbing services as required by remodeling/ special projects. 

2. Formulate specifications to be used in preparation of bids for acquiring services, contracts, and items purchased. 

Professional Development Requirements  

A. Skills Required 

1. Knowledge of hand and power tools 

2. Skilled in all areas of plumbing, mechanical and construction 

3. Operate a pipe threader, sewer machine and other associated 

equipment 

4. Excellent written and oral communication and customer relations 

5. Use of computer and technology 

6. Knowledgeable in reading plans and specifications 

 

B. Training Modules 

1. Continuing education in plumbing 

2. Customer Service 

3. Basic computer training 

4. Safety training

Qualifications

1. High School diploma or GED

1. Clean and neat in appearance

6. Must be able to read and speak English 

Physical Demands  

A. Must be able to work in a stressful environment 

B. Be able to do manual labor 

C. Good health and stamina to lift, carry, and pull loads in excess of fifty pounds

D. Must be able to climb ladder and work in varying climate conditions
